Droungarios

Droungarios
   In the provinces, a high-ranking military officer who commanded a droungos within a theme (qq.v.). There was also a Droungarios of the Watch (droungarios tes viglas), who commanded the Watch (q.v.), or vigla, that guarded the emperor (q.v.), and a Droungarios of the Fleet (droungarios tou ploiou), who commanded the imperial fleet stationed at Constantinople (q.v.).
